Project: Spring Grove Hospital Center Decentralization
Owner: Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
Partners: NORESCO, Temp Air Company, EMJAY Engineering and Construction Co., Min Engineering
Description: Ecologic was instrumental in the renewable energy project development for the state-run Spring Grove Hospital Center. Ecologic developed an energy performance contract (EPC) for the Center that would help achieve the O’Malley/Brown Administration’s EmPOWER Maryland Act’s energy reductions of 15% by 2015. Officials estimated the upgrade would save taxpayers approximately $2.8 million in utility and operational savings over 13 years. In fact, the project surpassed expected guaranteed annual energy saving by $1.4 million, and reduced natural gas consumption by 82% in, the first two years. Ecologic assembled an implementation team and developed strategies to reduce costs to below budget level and to make the project viable.
